If you are planning to go on your first deep sea fishing excursion while on vacation, you may wonder what you can do beforehand to prepare. If so, use the following three tips for packing for your first deep sea fishing trip.
Overestimate the Tackle You Will Need
Fishing in the ocean is quite different than fishing in a stream or river. When you fish inland in fresh water, you usually have a good idea of the types of fish that are swimming around. However, when you are deep sea fishing, you never know what may take the bait on your line.
For example, if you are fishing for tuna, you may be surprised when a shark decides to take a bite out of your mackerel bait. If your pole or line are not equipped to handle this unexpected catch, you may end up with broken tackle.
In this case, because the shark is typically heavier than a tuna, you want to be prepared by having a heavy-duty graphite pole. Also, use braided line with a test of between 50 to 100 pounds.
Prepare for Stormy Weather
The weather on the ocean can change unexpectedly. One minute, the sun may be shining. However, storm clouds can roll in quickly and bring down a deluge of rain.
To make sure you are prepared for this change in weather, make sure you pack rain gear that covers your entire body. This gear includes a waterproof jacket, pants, hat, and boots. Once the rain passes, you can easily take them off and have dry clothes underneath.
Pack Anti-Seasickness Pills
Speaking of stormy weather, the waves on the ocean are very choppy during storms. Even if the sun is shining, the constant rocking of the boat could make you severely sea sick, especially if you are not used to it. And even if you are used to being on a lake boat, the movement of the water is much different.
If you have never spent much time on the ocean, make sure you pack anti-seasickness pills, such as Dramamine, just in case. You do not want to spend most of your vacation vomiting over the side of the boat.
Using the above tips can help you be prepared for your deep sea fishing adventure, especially if this is your first time fishing in the ocean. If you have any questions, contact the local tourism office. They may be able to answer any questions or direct you to someone who is knowledgeable about fishing offshore in the area.
When I got married, I failed miserably at planning my honeymoon. For some unknown reason, I thought a 3 day trip to a beach followed by a 3 day trip to the mountains was a good idea. During the middle of our honeymoon, my husband and I had to travel approximately 6 hours from our first destination to our second one. To make matters worse, our car broke down during this long commute. If you’re currently planning your honeymoon, consider booking an extended stay at one unforgettable resort retreat. In doing so, you will simplify your trip and have more time to spend with each other. On this blog, you will discover honeymoon planning tips.
