Heading Out To Watch Whales? How To Prepare For Your Adventure

Flenn Austin

If you've decided to spend some time whale-watching this summer, you're in for an adventure. Whales are spectacular creatures to watch, especially if you get the opportunity to spend the day on a boat with them. To make the most of your whale-watching boat adventure, you should take care of some advance preparation. Here are four simple steps that will help you make the most of your boat trip.

Do Your Homework

While you're out watching whales, be prepared to ask questions. Your tour guides will have plenty of information to provide you with. Before you head out, take the time to do some research about the animals you'll come in contact with on your tour. You might be surprised to find out that you'll be seeing other sea life during your tour. Prepare a list of questions you would want to ask. During your boat tour, ask your guide to answer the questions you've prepared.

Plan for Sickness

Whether you've been on boats before, or this will be your first adventure, you should plan for sickness. You never know when rough seas are going to bring out the worst in your stomach. Talk to your doctor about medication for sea sickness, or visit your local pharmacy. It's also a good idea to bring a small package of crackers or hard candies. These items will help calm your stomach while you're on your tour. If you do get sick, don't worry. There will probably be a few others on your tour who are feeling the effects as well.

Dress for Weather Changes

You never know when the weather is going to change while you're on a boat tour. To make sure you're prepared for temperature fluctuations, make sure you dress with weather changes in mind. The best way to do that is to dress in layers. Your first article of clothing should be a light-weight shirt. If it's cool when you leave, add layers to that shirt. Bring a jacket with you in case it gets cooler later on. The layering will allow you to accommodate weather changes throughout the day.

Expect to Get Wet

If you're going to be watching whales on your trip, you should expect to get wet. You never know when whales are going to breach – jump out of the water and splash. When they do, you're probably going to get soaked, and so will your camera. Before you head out for your boat tour, make sure you pack a rain poncho and a plastic bag. The rain poncho will keep you dry and the plastic bag will keep your camera dry.

About Me
Planning Your Honeymoon

When I got married, I failed miserably at planning my honeymoon. For some unknown reason, I thought a 3 day trip to a beach followed by a 3 day trip to the mountains was a good idea. During the middle of our honeymoon, my husband and I had to travel approximately 6 hours from our first destination to our second one. To make matters worse, our car broke down during this long commute. If you’re currently planning your honeymoon, consider booking an extended stay at one unforgettable resort retreat. In doing so, you will simplify your trip and have more time to spend with each other. On this blog, you will discover honeymoon planning tips.
