6 Must-Have Items For That Upcoming Beach Vacation!

Flenn Austin

If you've got a beach vacation scheduled in your future, you probably already know that you'll need to bring bathing suits, plenty of sunscreen, and at least one good pair of sunglasses. However, if you're new to beach sojourns, you may not be aware of certain items that you should pack that will make your stay even more enjoyable. Here are seven of them:

Baby Powder

Baby powder has a multitude of uses, but seasoned beach lovers have discovered that it's invaluable for removing sand from the bottoms of feet! Simply sprinkle it liberally over the soles of your feet after walking barefoot in the sand, wipe it off with a clean, soft cloth and voila -- your feet are sand free and ready to slip into that stunning pair of sandals.

Your Own Beach Towels

Many travelers who are going to a beach resort for a vacation automatically assume that the resort will supply beach towels -- and they do. However, hotel and resort towels are invariably white, and using your own colorful beach towels to drape across your lounge chairs can make your spot easy to locate in a crowded sea of white towels. You'll be able to wander into the waves with the assurance that you won't be spending hours afterward trying to locate your lounge chair.

Household Trash Bags

These make excellent receptacles for wet bathing suits, damp towels, and flip flops when it comes time to pack for the return trip home because they'll protect the other items in your luggage from becoming damaged due to exposure to moisture. Many travelers roll their wet bathing suits up in beach towels, but this practice often has unpleasant results, particularly if they are traveling by air where baggage frequently gets knocked around.

Anti-Bacterial Wipes

Frolicking on the seashore wearing a minimal amount of clothing can result in a variety of cuts and scrapes on various parts of the body. The feet seem to get the worst of it -- even if you bring water shoes or flip flops to wear while exploring the beach, who can resist the feeling of sand against bare feet? Sharp shells, bits of broken glass, and other objects may be hidden in the sand that can result in cuts on the feet, however. Having anti-bacterial wipes on hand will help prevent small cuts and scrapes from developing infections.

Simple Food and Paper Plates

Part of the fun of going on vacation is sampling local cuisine in fabulous restaurants, and beach resorts typically have a variety of fresh seafood available for hungry diners. However, if you're renting a beach cabin or staying in a suite in a resort that is equipped with a kitchen, you or other members of your party may be preparing meals while on vacation. Planning on simple meals that can be quickly prepared will leave everyone with more time to enjoy their vacation -- think deli-style cold sandwiches, one-dish casseroles, and pasta tossed with local seafood and vegetables. Packing paper plates will minimize cleanup chores.

A Rainy Day Kit

Even if you experience glorious weather during your entire beach vacation, a personalized rainy day kit may still come in handy for those days when you'd prefer to laze about rather than go exploring or if you become ill. What you decide to place in it will depend on you and your traveling companions' unique needs and preferences. If you'll be traveling with children, bring whatever books, movies, and games will keep them entertained in the event that a rainy day or other situation keeps them indoors. Do the same for yourself and encourage others to pack a rainy day kit as well.

About Me
Planning Your Honeymoon

When I got married, I failed miserably at planning my honeymoon. For some unknown reason, I thought a 3 day trip to a beach followed by a 3 day trip to the mountains was a good idea. During the middle of our honeymoon, my husband and I had to travel approximately 6 hours from our first destination to our second one. To make matters worse, our car broke down during this long commute. If you’re currently planning your honeymoon, consider booking an extended stay at one unforgettable resort retreat. In doing so, you will simplify your trip and have more time to spend with each other. On this blog, you will discover honeymoon planning tips.
